A THREE-YEAR-OLD’S FIGHT AGAINST NECROTIZING PNEUMONIA

You are part of the magic that makes miracles happen for kids like Selah.

Last year, 3-year-old Selah was taken to a Sanford emergency room with upper respiratory symptoms and trouble breathing. What originally was a textbook case of RSV turned into a much more serious, rare form of necrotizing pneumonia in her right lung that caused the lining of her lungs to deteriorate and fill with air bubbles.

Selah was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Sanford Children’s Hospital and intubated with a ventilator and, later, an oscillator. Thanks to exceptional care and the generosity of friends like you, Selah beat all odds. After 26 days of care and close monitoring, Selah was able to return home to her beloved siblings.

When you give for Sanford Children’s, the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, 100% of every gift helps fund:

  • Lifesaving equipment like pediatric CT scanners and ultrasound machines
  • Services like Child Life, spiritual care services and school tutoring
  • Financial assistance to help families with meals, mileage, lodging and other costs not covered by insurance
  • Playrooms filled with toys, games, books and cozy furniture, and so much more

“We saw many blessings in our time at the castle that were big and small,” Selah’s dad explained. “Even those small things were very impactful to our family and our story, and most of all, Selah. She is here because of the Children’s Hospital, without question.”

Every day, a local child’s life is changed forever by an unexpected injury or diagnosis like Selah’s. Your support for Sanford Children’s can make more miracles happen.
