RADIOTHON RAISES MORE THAN $200,000 FOR SANFORD CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN SIOUX FALLS

In December, the Sioux Falls area stepped forward in a big way to support kids and families served by Sanford Children’s Hospital.

The 18th annual Midwest Communications Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon for Kids presented by Nielson Construction, held December 7-8, raised more than $200,000 for Sanford Children’s, said Bethany Olson, senior development officer for the Sanford Health Foundation in Sioux Falls.

“Our hearts are filled with gratitude for all those who supported this effort — our sponsors, the on-air teams at KTWB and KELO-FM, our miracle families, our care teams, our team of volunteers and all those who called in to give, or who gave online,” Olson said. “This support will absolutely make a difference for the kids and families we serve — kids and families who need and deserve care close to home.”

Families, like the Huberts, who made a gift during the Radiothon in recognition of the care they received from Sanford Children’s after the birth of their baby boy, Ben.

‘Forever grateful’

When making her gift, Lindsey Hubert shared how the care her family received from the team at Children’s made an impact.

“Last year we were sitting it the NICU with our miracle baby Ben who was born at 31 weeks and 3 days. We spent a total of 45 days there, which meant we were there for Christmas,” Lindsey wrote. “With a 2-year-old at home who could not come visit her new baby brother on Christmas, we left our little boy in the hands of the amazing nurses and staff of the NICU. I don’t know what I would have done without the support of everyone at the Sanford NICU and the little things that were done around Christmas for our son made such a difference and gave us so much comfort! Our family will be forever grateful for Sanford Childrens /NICU!”

Sanford Children’s Hospital is home to the region’s only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and features expert caregivers in 35 pediatric specialties who deliver world-class care to more than 17,000 local children each year.
